We’re always keen to learn about your MX-5S, whether they’re standard or modified, pristine or travel-scarred, road warriors or track beasts.
MARK JOHNSON, UK. MK3.5 2.0 KURO
West Midlands-based Mark runs his limited edition Kuro as his daily driver and, as a member of several MX-5 clubs, is off in it most weekends enjoying the roof down driving experience. A Cobra exhaust and lowered suspension are on the cards.
MARK & ABBY WURTMANN, USA. MK3 GRAND TOURING
Looking good on its 50,000 miles, this 2013 mk3 is Mark’s daily drive. Visually standard, the car has been treated to Motorcraft synthetic transmission fluid for its six-speed manual, and Lamin-x yellow tint for the front fog lights.
ANDREW WINGROVE, UK. MK1 1.6
When Andy bought his standard Uk-spec car back in 2015 it was fairly rotten and he’s had the full sills and front wings replaced on both sides: a lot of effort, but well worth it.
Leather and wood now adorn the interior, but otherwise it remains standard.
GARY WATSON, UK. MK1 CALIFORNIA
The Lake District is a brighter place when Gary is out and about in his California, number 188 from a run of 300. He’s had the car since 2017, has replaced the springs and dampers, and fitted a full stainless steel exhaust system, including the manifold.
TIAGO SOARES DA COSTA, PORTUGAL. MK1 1.6 & MK3.5 1.8 20TH ANNIVERSARY
Portugal’s glorious climate makes it the ideal place to own an MX-5, or, as in Tiago’s case, two of them. Porto-based Tiago uses the 20th Anniversary as his daily driver, while his 1992 mk1 has done about 62,000 miles.
JACOB ROUFS, USA. MK4 RF CLUB 2.0
A resident of Portland, Oregon, Jacob tells us that his RF Club isn’t his daily driver, but ‘it’s too much fun to leave sitting at home for too long’. Nicknamed ‘Frosty’, the RF has now done 7500 miles and is standard.
PHILIP SPENCER, UK. MK1 1.8 EUNOS
Three years into his ownership, Phil’s Eunos has still only done 67,000 miles. Mods include
Rota RB alloys, a subtle bodykit, Jass Performance LED sidelights, a K&N air filter, a chromed rocker cover, and a twin exhaust system from Infinity Exhausts.
RALF EHLERS, GERMANY. MK3 NISEKO 1.8 ROADSTER/COUPE
An MX-5 fan since 1989, Bremen-based Ralf finally bought one in 2015 after his wife was injured in a motorbike accident and they realised four wheels were safer than two. Mods include Enkei wheels and H&R springs and dampers.
JIM WALTERS, USA. MK2 2000 SE
Jim’s Mahogany Mica mk3 is used for summer runs only, but as he’s based in Colorado and is in easy reach of the rest of southwest USA, he gets to drive on some epic roads. The car recently won an award at the Flyin’ Miata Summer Camp.
