EAT, DRINK & BE MERRY
Yorkshire’s finest festivities
December is a month of celebration at Newburgh Priory in North Yorkshire, which throws open its grounds for the annual Christmas fair. Wine and carols in front of the 17th-century fireplace will start the proceedings, which also include a talk by the paint specialist Edward Bulmer and a workshop on constructing the perfect gingerbread house. Christmas trees harvested from the Priory’s grounds are being sold in the ruins of the Long Gallery all month, while tea and cakes are served in the old kitchens, providing visitors with a tantalising glimpse inside this 12th-century estate. cg The Newburgh Priory Christmas Fair (www.newburghpriory.co.uk) runs from 30 November to 2 December.
