December is a month of cel­e­bra­tion at New­burgh Pri­ory in North York­shire, which throws open its grounds for the an­nual Christ­mas fair. Wine and carols in front of the 17th-cen­tury fire­place will start the pro­ceed­ings, which also in­clude a talk by the paint spe­cial­ist Ed­ward Bul­mer and a work­shop on con­struct­ing the perfect gin­ger­bread house.
