A Hollywood legend arrives at the South Bank

Cate Blanchett makes her National Theatre debut in January as she stars in a new play by Martin Crimp. Based on Pamela, the 1740s bestselling novel about a maid terrorised and imprisoned by her wealthy employer, it promises to be a passionate exploration of the relationships between men and women and the complicated nature of desire. tf ‘When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other: Twelve Variations on Samuel Richardson’s Pamela’ is at the National Theatre from 16 January to 2 March 2019.
