THE THOUGHT-PROVOKERS
Bella Freud Psychoanalysis, £45. Because there’s no better way to tell someone you love that frankly, a little introspection might be good for them round about now. Freud’s irreverence and stylish beauty is personified in this addictive neroli, tobacco flower and cedarwood scented candle.
Diptyque Insolite, £50. If you adore vintage, and are most at home in a dusty, fusty antique shop or a Harry Potter-style library, you’ll appreciate this collaboration between Diptyque and Liberty, which is spicy, zesty, strange and unusual all at the same time.
DS & Durga Tomb of the Eagles, £58. ‘In the far north, where Orkney eagles carried Stone Age souls beyond the jagged cliffs, Clover, sea pinks, sweet cicely and the sonorous sea.’ So says the blurb on the box. ‘Winter is coming’ say I, and you can almost smell the waves crashing against the cliffs in this beautiful amber glass candle from the Brooklyn-based perfumers.
No22 in Bookshelf, £38. Embossed on this roughto-the-touch ceramic candle pot is a knit two, purl two ribbed-jumper swatch, shaped like a crest and testament to the craft-loving founder Sophie Beresiner’s passion for knitting and all things homely. Smelling of soft leather and with a subtle sweetness akin to a large bag of Werther’s Original toffees, this is the candle to light when curling up with a good book.
