One hundred per cent organic, from the essential oils used to create the violet blossom, whisky, leather and almond scent, to the natural wax composed of beeswax, coconut and carnauba, and with a hand-blown glass jar (it apparently reduces the damage to surfaces, as it transmits less heat), this Uk-made candle is the most sustainable I’ve come across yet, and is healthy for those who have allergies or asthma.

JOGB GOJO, £65. Another one that’s safe for asthmatics and pets. The lifestyle beauty editor Jo Glanville-blackburn uses natural essential oils to create the uplifting lemon grass, bergamot, coriander and frankincense fragrance for her range of candles, at a higher strength for a more intense mood-boosting aroma and in a base of healthy rapeseed and soy wax.
