FORAGED FANCIES
The natural inspiration behind beautiful floral prints
Celebrating the richness and beauty of wild plant forms, Isla Middleton creates intricate handcarved botanical etchings and lino cuttings, which she prints onto an array of homeware. ‘I enjoy fitting different plants together in a harmonious, flowing style,’ says the Devonbased designer. From notebooks to cushions and tote bags to posters, Middleton artfully renders her seasonally foraged treasures in expressive lines and earthytoned inks. ‘I draw directly from my fresh findings,’ she says, ‘But I also refer to old botanical illustration books, of which I have quite a collection.’ Middleton’s prints have appeared in collaborations with brands such as Morris & Co, featuring pendantlike bluebells, white woodland anemones, knapweed in bloom and other meadow flowers from her Dartmoor surroundings. bt www.islamiddleton.co.uk
