SCENTS OF THE PAST

-

PENHALIGON’S

Originally sold to politicians in the 19th century from a barbershop near Piccadilly, this classic British fragrance house has a great unisex offering.

CLIVE CHRISTIAN

The interior designer Clive Christian bought and renamed the Crown Perfumery in 1999, rescuing a heritage that includes the scents exchanged by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

DIANA VREELAND PARFUMS

Harper’s Bazaar’s former fashion editor (right) was so passionate about her favourite scent that she reportedly injected her pillows with it using a hypodermic syringe; the perfume brand founded in her name by her grandson is a fitting tribute.

CIRE TRUDON

The oldest French candlemaker was relaunched in the 2000s and its products are popular with the fashion set. A recent perfume collection broadened its appeal.
