Boaters dig deep for public access defib
KIND hearted boaters at White Mills Marina have dug deep and helped to raise enough money in just nine months to buy a public access defibrillator.
And the great news is that the new life-saving device has not only been installed but it is now available to everyone visiting the River Nene and Nene Valley at Earls Barton – from boaters, walkers, cyclists and kayakers through to runners and footballers using the playing fields opposite the marina.
Sited at the entrance of White Mills Marina at 344, Grendon Road, Earls Barton, Northamptonshire NN6 0RB, the new defibrillator is accessible 24/7.
Commenting on the new defib, operations manager for White Mills Marina, Gary Butcher, said: “We have been absolutely overwhelmed by people’s generosity. To achieve our fundraising target in just nine months is terrific news.
“Of course the defib is not just for the benefit of our boaters but for the wider community too, which is really important to us. We are really thrilled, so thank you to everyone.”
Last year, White Mills Marina was awarded four gold anchors by The Yacht Harbour Association and is totally committed to providing first class facilities and services for every visitor, including boaters and campers as well as customers to the marina’s award-winning cafe, the boathouse.
Defib training sessions are to be arranged over the next few weeks, and anyone interested in joining in should contact Gary Butcher at White Mills Marina on 01604 812057.
