Boat on the move
TRADE around the canals didn’t completely grind to a halt during the lockdown, writes Colin Wareing.
This narrowboat was pictured ascending Appley Lock on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to the west of Wigan on Sunday, May 31.
The boat was being moved from Scarisbrick in Lancaster to a marina on the Middlewich arm of the Shropshire Union in Cheshire.
Because of the coronavirus lockdown guidance from the Canal & River Trust, advising that only essential journeys should be undertaken, it was felt necessary to display a banner on the side of the boat to say it was a legitimate journey.
