Joining the EV revolution

-

DURING the months of lockdown, the peculiarity of staying indoors and avoiding the act of driving started to become the norm; as a result, air pollution was declining, making people think twice about their carbon footprint.

Experiencing significant benefits from better air quality, many are now opting to drive an electric vehicle (EV) to play their part. With this in mind, the increase in electric vehicles requires the acceleration of charging points, allowing drivers to recharge conveniently.

Situating EV charge points at canal, river or waterfront locations is simpler than most would think. The location merely requires live, neutral and earth wiring capabilities as well as sufficient parking space.

Businesses of all shapes and sizes can use EV charging as a way of attracting new visitors while creating the grounds for visitor retention.

There is also the opportunity to generate additional revenue by using flexible pricing models; with the ability to offer free charging to pay-as-you-go charging, the opportunities to entice a new visitor base are endless. Some will have concerns about electrical capacity to operate the EV charge points; however, modern technology now provides load management capabilities, ensuring that on-site power is used and managed efficiently.

With OLEV grant funding available and many locations eligible to apply, the deployment of EV charging infrastructure can facilitate the rise in EVs for waterfront destinations.
