Crane barge conversion continues
WORK has been continuing on the conversion of a former crane barge into a floating dry dock.
As reported in our February edition (Business news, Issue 184) Laird Evans of Viking Marine Ltd of Goole commissioned Deans Marine in Hull to carry out work on the barge Dovedale.
Laird told Towpath Talk recently: “The ship has now been cut into three sections and we’ll soon be floating the sections out so that their positions can be changed around to enable the re-welding of the bow to the stern.”
The mid 21m section will become the floating dry dock and rejoining the bow and stern will remake Dovedale into a 26.5m motor vessel.
It may then be used as an accommodation barge for contract workers in Goole for the forthcoming Siemens rail project.
