Boating from a bygone era
THE 42nd Thames Traditional Boat Festival will take place on Fawley Meadows, as it has for the past 41 years until last year, over the bank holiday weekend from Friday to Monday, August 27-30.
Organisers have had to reschedule the event so as not to clash with the Henley Regatta.
It promises to be a celebration of all that’s best in British boatbuilding and craftsmanship, evoking the nostalgia of boating from a bygone era.
This popular event now offers more attractions on the water, in the air and on the land than ever before, including the fleet of Dunkirk ‘Little Ships’, and the largest display of traditional boats in Europe, amphibious and military vehicles, the First World War air display team – and much more.
As well as dozens of classic rivercraft, the four-day festival of family fun also includes food, drink, music, shopping and antiques stalls.
It promises to be a quintessential English summer weekend by the river with bars and street food and the Crooked Billet pop-up pub offering music to turn each evening into the best bank holiday party!
A ‘soft’opening with a party night will take place on the Friday evening.
The full-on festival will go ahead over the weekend with entertainment until 11pm on Saturday and Sunday, music stopping at 10pm on the Monday.
