WITH a variety of coronavirus restrictions still in place, many British people are choosing a staycation over a foreign holiday. Just one in 10 people feel comfortable travelling abroad with 86% preferring to spend a weekend away in the UK this year.

Marinas have been a popular choice for travellers in the UK for a staycation, providing a well-deserved break for boating enthusiasts, families and couples.

Northwich Quay Marina, situated in the heart of Northwich, Cheshire, is welcoming guests to its 50 berths, with long-term or shortterm moorings available.

As part of a unique staycation, the marina will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the historic ‘salt’ town of Northwich and its surrounding nature, including local wildlife such as swans, cormorants, herons and otters, and explore all that Cheshire has to offer.

From £ 19 per night, which includes electricity, Northwich Quay Marina provides easy access to public transport which can take you to the walled cathedral city of Chester within 30 minutes, as well as providing access to the historical Anderton Boat Lift.

Dating back to 1875, this two-caisson lift lock provides a 50ft vertical link between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal and is one of the Seven Wonders of the Waterways.

Olivia Worswick, manager at Northwich Quay, said: “We are pleased to be welcoming visitors to our marina as part of our staycation offering here at Northwich Quay Marina.

“The holiday market has well and truly suffered over the past 18 months and being able to holiday in the UK, as part of a unique experience on water, is a great way to explore what the country and the UK water network has to offer.”

She added: “Northwich Quay Marina is located in a beautiful area on the River Weaver with the surrounding areas of Northwich and Cheshire featuring rich history and must-see attractions, such as Delamere Forest and Arley Hall and Gardens. We can’t wait to welcome more boating enthusiasts to our site.”

With a range of modern amenities including laundry facilities, service pedestals with water and electricity, as well as coal sales, the marina offers high-quality mooring facilities and access to spectacular cruising routes around the north-west of England.

Northwich Quay Marina was developed by award-winning marina developer Geomac, which forms part of the wider Land & Water Group, one of the UK’s leading wet civil engineering companies.
