Railway brings glamour to marina glamping

-

IT’S full steam ahead for rail and glamping enthusiasts at Overwater Marina, near Audlem, Cheshire.

The award-winning inland waterways marina on the Shropshire Union Canal has just launched a small number of luxury glamping wagons right next to the now dismantled Nantwich to Wellington railway – the old Gingerbread line.

With sumptuous built-in or freestanding bed, a fully stocked kitchen area, a cast iron Ever Hot stove and an en-suite shower room, the marina hopes these beautifully handcrafted wagons will provide an ideal retreat for a peaceful getaway.

Bespoke built by Cedar & Oak of Holmes Chapel, each wagon features little touches to remind guests of the Great Western Railway heritage. Each wagon is named after a station on the Gingerbread line and both Wellington and Hodnet feature stunning outdoor log-fired hot tubs.

To add to the railway theme, guests can also access part of the original track bed along the old railway cutting, as well as catching a glimpse of passing boats on the nearby Shropshire Union Canal embankment as it passes over the Weaver valley.

With easy access to the vibrant village of Audlem via the canal towpath, and the popular Crewe Heritage Centre only a 20-minute drive away, the new venture is set to inspire generations of rail and canal enthusiasts keen to find out more about the history of the Great Western Railway as well as visitors who just want to get away from it all in the beautiful Cheshire countryside – with a little luxury thrown in on the side!
