Alvechurch Historical Society: James Brindley – The 1st Canal Engineer by Roy Murphy. The Ark, School Lane, Alvechurch, Worcesters­hire B48 7SB, which is part of St Laurence Church. Arrive 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. Admission is £3 for non-members, no need to book, just turn up.

IWA Chester & Merseyside Branch: Waterway walk featuring the Shropshire Union Canal, starting from Waverton near Chester. Three miles but with some unused and overgrown footpaths to form a circular and interestin­g route. There are some meadows to cross which could be uneven but no hills or slopes. Meet at 10.15 for 10.30am start, finishing at parking place about 1.30pm. Anyone wishing to take part should email derek. smith@waterways.org.uk by the Saturday evening before the walk.
