Rusack’s Bridge named in honour of canal stalwart Ronnie Rusack

-

BRIDGE 15, in Ratho on the Union Canal, has been renamed in honour of the late Ronnie Rusack MBE who died in November 2020.

Ronnie was a longtime campaigner for the restoration and reopening of the Lowland Canals, one of the original founders of the Seagull Trust and an award- winning landlord and past owner of the Bridge Inn in Ratho, adjacent to the renamed bridge.

Ratho locals and the canal community were keen that Ronnie’s achievements should be given recognition. The naming event on Saturday, April 2 was an opportunity for around 60 of Ronnie’s family and many friends to come together and pay tribute to him and his dedication to the revival of the canals, something that was not possible due to Covid restrictions in place at the time of his death.

After the naming ceremony, during which Ronnie’s grandchildren unveiled the new bridge nameplate, everyone shared refreshments at the Bridge Inn.
