New appointmen­ts to Scottish Canals board

SCOTLAND’S Minister for Transport has announced the appointmen­t of Maureen Campbell as non-executive chairman to the board of Scottish Canals.

She replaces Andrew Thin, who stepped down from the role at the end of March this year, having served for eight years, the maximum term allowed. Her initial term is for three years to March 21, 2025.

Maureen is the former chief executive of Falkirk Community Trust and a key leader in the developmen­t of the Helix, the parkland between Falkirk and Grangemout­h, home to the Kelpies. She has held various board positions in the sport, recreation, and culture sectors, and is currently vice chairman of Commonweal­th Games Scotland and a board member of Sportscotl­and. Her interests include swimming, cycling, and walking.

Also announced was the appointmen­t of Robin Strang as non-executive director for an initial term of three years from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025. Robin was chief executive of West Lothian Leisure and of Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust, charities working to improve physical and mental health and well-being through sport and physical activity.

He is currently a sport and leisure consultant, chairman of Community Leisure Scotland, and non- executive director of Sportscotl­and’s Trust Company. Robin enjoys running, cycling, and hill walking.
