Angel Canal Festival makes triumphant return

-

THOUSANDS of visitors joined in the fun at the Angel Canal Festival, held around City Road Lock on the Regent’s Canal in London on September 4.

Featuring boat trips, a floating theatre, craft stalls, food and live music as well as taster sessions on the water and activities on dry land, the festival was a return to the full-scale event last seen in 2019 before the pandemic.

Angel Canal Festival began more than 30 years ago thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers, and since 2018 has been run by the Canal & River Trust.

VIP visitors included the Mayor of Islington and Islington South and Finsbury Labour MP Emily Thornberry, who both gave speeches from floating theatre boat Widgeon.

CRT London & South East regional director Ros Daniels said: “More than two million people in London and the South East live within a kilometre of one of the waterways we look after.

“Our charity believes life is better by water, so it was great to see so many people enjoying being on and by the Regent’s Canal as well as learning about the work Canal & River Trust does to care for the blue and green space on their doorstep.

“An event on this scale is impossible to deliver without the help of an army of volunteers and we were also lucky to have support from local boat clubs, boaters and businesses.

“I’d like to thank them and the Canal & River Trust staff and volunteers who gave their time to make it such a success.”
