Successful weekend for Overwater charities

-

OVERWATER Marina at Audlem, Cheshire played host to two local charity events over a busy August Bank Holiday weekend.

On the Friday, moorers, caravanners and locals gathered in the canalside marquee for a charity quiz and hog roast. Quizmaster and marina manager David Johnson set a number of testing quiz rounds as well as acting as the auctioneer for a wide-ranging promise auction.

Lots included a two- night stay in one of Overwater’s luxury glamping wagons, a gin tasting trip to the local, and very popular, Three Wrens Gin distillery and a meal for two at the Cafe at Bridge 80 at Overwater. Other gifts were generously donated by the Combermere Arms, Audlem Chippy, Ruth’s Flowers, the Audlem Lass and many others. A great night was had by all and a total of £2599.85 was raised for the Audlem Lass, supporting the RNLI ( Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and Overwater Wheelyboat Services.

Both charities operate at Overwater Marina. The Audlem Lass Boat Service is a popular volunteer-run trip boat which raises funds for the RNLI. It carries passengers from the marina to Audlem bottom lock on weekends and bank holidays from Easter to late October. Overwater Wheelyboat Services is a charity offering wheelchair-accessible boat trips on the Shropshire Union Canal. They also offer wheelchair-accessible minibus trips.

On Saturday, Overwater supported the Audlem Music and Arts Festival by hosting Music at the Marina, with live bands throughout the day and night. Local bands kept the crowds entertained throughout the day and evening, while volunteers and Cafe at Bridge 80 worked tirelessly to keep them served with food and drink. The music festival team now hopes to reinstate the ever-popular Audlem Music and Arts Festival in 2023.
