Towpath Talk

An autumn walk along the Shroppie

-

NOVEMBER’S guided walk with the IWA Chester & Merseyside branch explores Bunbury and the surrounding countryside.

This canal and countryside circular walk on Sunday, November 13 will be about four miles long and the first part will follow a country lane gently downhill to the Shropshire Union Canal at Tilston Lock.

It will then follow the towpath all the way to Calveley, passing the famous Bunbury staircase locks. The latter half of the walk is along footpaths which may be boggy in places and are not often used. They will take you over rough countryside meadows to the working Bunbury Water Mill on the river Gowy, then back to the village pub for lunch.

All the gates and seven stiles are in good order but dogs may need lifting over some of the stiles.

Meeting at 10.15am for a 10.30 start, the walk should finish back at the parking place around 1.30pm. On the Thursday before the walk a reminder will be sent to everyone who has booked, which will also give details of where you will need to park.
