Scottish Government cuts canals cash
EMERGENCY budget measures to help people most in need were announced by Scottish Government in early November.
The Emergency Budget Review reprioritised more than £700 million of public spending to help those most affected by the cost of living crisis and the budget pressures caused by inflation and economic uncertainty.
Scottish Canals is the public body which manages Scotland’s canal network and receives what is called ‘grant-in-aid’ from Scottish Government to perform statutory duties and progress new canal-related initiatives.
It has not escaped the public spending review with £2.5 million funding for capital projects being saved through pausing non-essential maintenance this financial year to support the Emergency Budget Review.
