Union Canal celebratio­ns flooded with light

SCOTTISH Canals provided extra illuminati­on to this year’s Ronnie Rusack Flotilla of Light, lighting up the Leamington Lift Bridge and Slateford Aqueduct in celebratio­n of the Union Canal bicentenar­y.

Twelve boats joined the flotilla on the Union, alongwith three boats fromthe Edinburgh Model Boat Club and several musicians, while large crowds gathered along the canal between Harrison Park and Lochrin Basin to watch it go by.

The weekend started with a boaters’ get together and bonfire on Friday, November 4, before converging at

Slateford Aqueduct ahead of the procession along the canal to Lochrin Basin. Over on the Forth & Clyde, the Kelpies joined the celebrator­y200-year light show, being lit in blue.
