Union Canal celebrations flooded with light
SCOTTISH Canals provided extra illumination to this year’s Ronnie Rusack Flotilla of Light, lighting up the Leamington Lift Bridge and Slateford Aqueduct in celebration of the Union Canal bicentenary.
Twelve boats joined the flotilla on the Union, alongwith three boats fromthe Edinburgh Model Boat Club and several musicians, while large crowds gathered along the canal between Harrison Park and Lochrin Basin to watch it go by.
The weekend started with a boaters’ get together and bonfire on Friday, November 4, before converging at
Slateford Aqueduct ahead of the procession along the canal to Lochrin Basin. Over on the Forth & Clyde, the Kelpies joined the celebratory200-year light show, being lit in blue.
