All-electric narrowboat joins day-hire fleet

ABC Leisure Group has launched a new all-electric day hire narrowboat, the first electric boat to join its fleet.

PerfectDay, a 36ftdayboa­t that accommodat­es up to 10 people, has been in developmen­t for 18 months.

The boat is fitted with lithium batteries which power a 48 volt Beta Marine 10kW motor. Charging and energy management is provided by products from the company’s Onboard Energy off- grid energy range which can be purchased online at www. onboardene­rgydirect.co.uk

ABC Leisure Group plans to launch a further eight electric day boats across England and Wales over the next 18 months. Marketing and sales director Haley Hadley said: “The waterways are havens forwildlif­e and many of our customers are interested in taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint and environmen­tal impact.

“From Kings Orchard Marina, day boat hirers can cruise through the Staffordsh­ire countrysid­e to Fradley Junction or Bonehill and back. No previous canal boating experience is required and tuition is included in our day hire prices.”

She added: “We look forward to hearing feedback from our customers who enjoy a day out aboard Perfect Day, as we continue to take steps to meet demand for low-carbon energy solutions for our day boats, holiday-hire boats and marina operations.”

Onboard facilities include outdoor and indoor seating, a toilet, kitchen with induction hob and grill, a sink and fridge. Day boat hire starts at £99 on a weekday, £189 on a weekend or bank holiday.
