East Soar, Devon
T his circular route from Bolt Head takes you through prehistoric landscapes of rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, woodland with raptors flying overhead and longhorned highland cattle. The route is a stunning mix of coastal climbs and descents with high, flat sections to get your breath back and appreciate the views across the sea: on clear days you can see submerged shipwrecks and as far away as the Lizard. It’s 97% off road on well-marked trails and the South West Coast Path. Enjoy the descent into Soar Mill cove where a quick dip in the sea can refresh the legs for the final push and the climb out of Starehole Bottom under towering Devonian rocks.
