Matt Buck says: “It’s important to set both short-terms goals, and long-terms goals. Adjust your short-term goals regularly and use them as stepping stones to the long-term goal.

“The best thing about running is you can continuously improve and better yourself. You’ll find yourself achieving things this year that last year might have seemed impossible!

“It’s important to set goals that are achievable but challenging, whether it’s hitting a new PB or a new race distance. Think carefully about whether or not you think you can achieve the goal with the right training. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself or set goals that are on the limit of your abilities, but give yourself a sensible timeline to work towards the challenge."

Push yourself by setting goals that are slightly out of your comfort zone
