The Lakeland Trails event at Keswick looked great so I decided to enter the 15k challenge. I planned to take my time and enjoy the day, but I finished under 2 hours! Some of the hills were tough but I felt strong and was able to keep going despite feeling like I was constantly going uphill for the first 10km! The 5km downhill to finish was even better though and I passed plenty of people, putting our training we got from Ben Mounsey to good use. I’ve also had another challenging race. I took part in the inaugural (and I’ve found out only, as it won’t run again in its current form) Sharphaw Metric Trail Marathon. This ended up being almost 17 miles of very hilly trails through the Yorkshire Dales. I found it really tough, especially as I’d been ill in the week leading up to it. When we got to mile 15 and were faced with a solid mile with over 500ft of climb, I honestly wanted to cry. Every muscle in my legs was going into spasm by the time I crossed the finish line. My next plans are to keep up the long trail runs (22 miles has been my longest in training recently). I also have my first cross country race planned, so I’m hoping I don’t do any damage there!
