Trail Running (UK) - - Kit Bag -

The Lake­land Trails event at Keswick looked great so I de­cided to en­ter the 15k chal­lenge. I planned to take my time and en­joy the day, but I fin­ished un­der 2 hours! Some of the hills were tough but I felt strong and was able to keep go­ing de­spite feel­ing like I was con­stantly go­ing up­hill for the first 10km! The 5km down­hill to fin­ish was even bet­ter though and I passed plenty of peo­ple, putting our train­ing we got from Ben Moun­sey to good use. I’ve also had an­other chal­leng­ing race. I took part in the in­au­gu­ral (and I’ve found out only, as it won’t run again in its cur­rent form) Sharphaw Met­ric Trail Marathon. This ended up be­ing al­most 17 miles of very hilly trails through the York­shire Dales. I found it re­ally tough, es­pe­cially as I’d been ill in the week lead­ing up to it. When we got to mile 15 and were faced with a solid mile with over 500ft of climb, I hon­estly wanted to cry. Ev­ery mus­cle in my legs was go­ing into spasm by the time I crossed the fin­ish line. My next plans are to keep up the long trail runs (22 miles has been my long­est in train­ing re­cently). I also have my first cross coun­try race planned, so I’m hop­ing I don’t do any dam­age there!
