I decided to run the Keswick 14k, which is part of the Lakeland Trails race series, complete with its stunning scenery and a well-placed lakeside campsite. If you haven’t done it, let me tell you it’s well worth it. At the highest point, the climb and view are similarly breathless. On the short section of flat at the top my shoes were still squelching, a reminder of the water from the bottomless bog that spilt over the tops of my shoes and tried to suck them from my feet. The run to the finish was down the popular route used to climb Skiddaw from the park. Very steep, it sapped any remaining strength from my legs but I was pleased to pass a few people and was welcomed down the finishers’ gantry. And even better, it also helped me hit Run1000Miles for 2018!
