Hi-Tec Ravine WP

£120 / 1556g (pair, size 11)

leather upper; minimal stitching; very aggressive sole lugs

higher-priced boots offer more stiffness for support; no rand; others are lighter

At this price a full-grain leather upper with minimal stitching and a waterproof lining is very impressive. The upper is supportive and has a stiffened toe box for use on more uneven ground. You get a sole unit with a very good set of lugs that are deep and widely spaced with a good heel breast. Stiffness in the sole is reasonable too for the price. Some higher-priced boots have additional benefits though. 4/5

Men’s sizes are 7-13 and women’s sizes are 4-8. The ankle cuff height is good for general walking, and it’s higher than many low-priced boots. The Ravine feels great on the foot, with a medium fit that is neither too narrow nor to wide, and the tongue fits neatly as does the ankle cuff. 5/5

This is very comfy straight from the box, thanks to a close fit and good padding around the foot and ankle. There is also good wiggle room for the toes, and I felt I could happily head straight onto the hills with them. On rougher ground they are not quite as good as higher-priced boots as they are more flexible, but for the price they are excellent. 4/5

These are great for most walkers looking for a general boot on a budget. The upper design is good for scrambling over rocks and the sole is great for clawing your way across boggy moorland. The upper and sole may not quite have the support of pricier boots, but this’ll only be an issue for regular users who want the absolute best performance on rockier ground, or a lighter boot for scrambling precision. 4/5

For the price these are outstanding, and only those with pots of dosh who want ultimate performance need to look elsewhere. 5/5 If £120 is your budget these will be ideal for hillwalking in the UK and abroad in a range of conditions. But 4.4/5 pricier boots are even better.
