NY134210 Exit the car park back to a junction of tracks near the entrance. Go right for High Nook Farm, following the track over a bridge and through a gate. Further on, pass through a gate opening, continuing over a bridge to rise right of High Nook Farm. Exit the farm through a gate to rise by Highnook Beck on the right. Pass through a wall gate and shortly leave the track half left, taking a grassy track towards Black Crag. Climb steeply, and when the angle eases (as Hen Comb and Mellbreak appear), leave the track taking a fainter path right towards Black Crag. Continue ahead (right really) when a path comes in left and climb left of Black Crag. Climb steeply, and higher up follow a shallow valley to continue on the rising narrowing path, cutting left of grassy mounds to reach the cairn on a subsidiary summit. Beyond, descend to cross a wet hollow and then a shallow gully to rise to a fence corner. Cross the right of two stiles, going left to the cairn on Gavel Fell summit.

NY117184 Head northerly by the fence, passing the two stiles. Stay right near the fence when the path splits shortly. Descend by the fence to cross the wet col at the head of Comb Gill, moving away from the fence slightly here. Beyond, rise steeply taking the path ahead and re-joining the fence. As the angle eases cross a stile, continuing ahead at a path junction shortly. Follow the fence and further up trend left away from it, rising to the wind shelter on Blake Fell summit.

NY111197 Head northerly again for a few paces, taking a narrow path half right towards Carling Knott ahead. Descend over a stile, continuing over a small marshy col. Beyond, follow a path rising up the edge of Carling Knott. Continue to the cairn and wind shelter on the summit. Re-trace your steps back from the summit for a short distance and just before the first rock outcrop leave your outbound route, taking a faint path right. Follow this towards a col and Burnbank Fell, heading towards a fence ahead. The path becomes vaguer – follow it carefully to reach the fence left of the col. Go right, following the fence through a gate in the col. Climb up Burnbank Fell with the fence left. The highest point is a cairn near an angle in the fence over the other side.

NY110209 From here, take the path north-easterly downhill. Further down, curve left and right, reaching a cairn. After this, curve left past low crags, following the path to traverse across the fellside. Soon descend very steeply towards a wall and track below. As the angle eases, curve right to reach the track by a wall, gate and stile.

NY113217 Pass through the gate, taking the left fork (grassier path). Follow the high level track, dropping to rise again past a bench. Continue toward a forest, soon swinging right into Holme Beck – cross this via a bridge. Rise on the track beyond with the forest left. As the angle eases, leave the track, curving left to take a path passing through a kissing gate into Holme Wood. Descend to cross over two paths. At a track junction by a sign for Holme Wood and a bench, go right, passing through a gate. Follow the track, passing through another gate and continuing past buildings. Exit via a gate opening, continuing on the track through two gates by cattle grids. Follow the track back to the start.
