Three to see
Sheffield Adventure Film Festival takes place this month, showing over 100 outdoor and adventure films across the weekend of 17-19 March. Here are three we reckon you have to see:
Wilderness
This short, beautifully shot film will have you planning a trip to the Highlands immediately – if it doesn’t make you quit your job and head to the hills permanently. Filmed entirely in Scotland and set to the words of naturalist John Muir, it praises the importance of wild places and a free life. See it: Spirit of Adventure Films 2 session
The Accord
Not about mountains (sorry), but the raging sea and unpredictable North Atlantic wind. The story of a surfer who must wait and battle and hope for the perfect conditions on the coast of Iceland. Creatively told, compelling and funny. See it: Surf and Kayak session
Jurek
Jerzy ‘Jurek’ Kukuczka competed with Reinhold Messner in the Eighties to climb the highest peaks in the world. Coming from an impoverished background, he got to the top using home-made kit, pure skill and determination. A fascinating look at a little-known angle of mountaineering history.
