Keen Wanderer Low WP

outsole lugs; stiffness; supportive, durable upper; reinforced toe; supportive heel

very heavy; feels quite clumpy This very rugged shoe features Keen’s iconic style around the toe for more protection. Primarily made from nubuck and suede leather, the upper has a sliver of synthetic materials around the tongue, while a KeenDry waterproof lining keeps rain at bay. Underfoot is a deep, wide-spaced set of lugs, with a slightly less aggressive heel breast than some. Overall, good features, but the weight is a major drawback.4/5

A wider than average size range is available here, with the men’s extending from 6-13 and women’s stretching down to 2½ and up to 8. This is a wider shoe than some others, with an extremely spacious toe box in particular. The tongue did not fit quite as tidily as some, though, and generally this shoe just feels less precise and neat on the foot. 4/5

It‘s a little heavy and the fit isn't quite so neat as others; overall it feels a little ‘clumpy‘. But it is well-cushioned and that spacious forefoot area is great. There’s also good stiffness in the upper to protect the foot from stray rocks, while underfoot the stiffness is acceptable, although you can feel stones through the sole easier than others. Higher-priced shoes offer benefits in all these areas. 4/5

The foot sits close to the ground which, with the wider forefoot, gives you a stable platform for every step, making it great for general walking. It‘s not so good on rockier ground as you can feel stones through the sole and it’s a little too clumsy for precise footholds when scrambling. The grip is pretty good, but a steeper heel breast would add valuable braking on descents. 4/5

Compared to other shoes the price is acceptable, but you only have to pay a little more and you get worthwhile benefits. 4/5

A good all-round shoe for general walking, but weight-wise it’s heavy as well as less precise on 4.0/5 the foot.
