THIRD PLACE JAMES GRANT
LONE TENT ON SUILVEN, NORTH-WEST HIGHLANDS
“I had gone up to stunning Assynt last March for four days. Suilven is a fantastic mountain to view while walking, along with a real sense of remoteness. You are forever wondering how on earth you get up the mountain; it’s not until you really get to the foot of the gully you see it’s actually a very steep but manageable walk up.
“The weather forecast for the next morning was overcast, I didn’t expect much. There was some aurora activity during the night, but I had gone to bed too early. When I opened the tent the last thing I expected to see was a full-on cloud inversion below me. I rushed more quickly than ever out of my tent to make for the summit.
“It was a case of taking many frames, the cloud different in each, until a perfect moment wrapped the mist around my tent. The six-mile walk back somehow didn’t seem so hard after that!”
