How can I keep my hands warmer?
QI suffer from Raynaud’s disease – is it worth purchasing hand warmers? Will they help? Owen Mayhew, Morecambe
Rob says I also suffer from Raynaud’s, but personally I’ve never found hand warmers to be particularly helpful. For me, keeping my core temperature up is the key to avoiding a problem in my hands.
Once our core body temperature drops, the body shuts off the blood supply to the extremities. Putting an extra layer on such as a gilet, an extra jacket or even a hat will keep the core temperature up and the blood supply flowing to your hands.
Once my hands do go purple or white the only way I can ‘get them back’ is to do some wild swinging of my arms and start working hard to get my core temperature up. This often gets some funny looks, but it works for me!
