CAN YOU AVOID THE SNOW IN SNOWDONIA?

-

QI’m off to Snowdonia imminently, but I’m not confident in the snow. Are there any peaks that might be clear? Paul Prince, Torquay

Rob says When the mountains of north Wales are enjoying a rare winter coat of snow we can often avoid it and admire it from afar by heading to the Moelwyns. Moelwyn Mawr and Cnicht are both below 700m and, on a clear day, afford fantastic views of Snowdon. Their lack of height will often mean that they are free from snow when the bigger mountains in the distance look their best in their winter dress. You can get the latest mountain conditions and forecast from the Met Office Mountain Forecast – remember to check the freezing level height because even though the mountains may not have snow on them, they can still be icy underfoot if the freezing level is low enough.
