Aonach Beag & Aonach Mor

Often dwarfed by their more famous parent, the Aonachs offer a great mountain challenge with exposed ridges and steep terrain. Ben James takes you through the route to bag Ben Nevis' spectacular neighbours.

G len Nevis is one of the most accessible places in the Highlands. The countless mountain playgrounds in and around the Fort William area underline its status as a mecca for walkers and mountaineers of all levels. The most famous peak is also the tallest, Ben Nevis, offering views to the Grey Corries and the mountains beyond. With the ski slopes on their northern flanks, the Aonachs have become an increasingly popular destination with visitors – many of whom are spared the strenuous walk to the summit of Aonach Mor via the gondola. To truly experience what the range has to offer, and to gaze at Ben Nevis from a spectacular perspective, tackling the Aonachs from Glen Nevis is a day not to be missed. In full winter mode, it offers a memorable mountain challenge over steep terrain and exposed ridges.
