SO114227 From Talybont Post Office, walk northwards along the road, crossing the canal. Shortly after the bridge, take the waymarked footpath on the left, heading up a couple of stone steps. The path goes diagonally across the field but is not obvious on the ground, so a bearing may be needed. After crossing into another, smaller, field, emerge onto a minor road via a stile. Walk a few hundred metres to the north and then cross another stile on the left, following a path through the field to meet another quiet lane. Follow the lane uphill for around 1.5km to enter the woods.
SO095224 Bear right just after entering the wood and then head uphill to a track junction. Continue straight ahead for around 2km to where the track crosses a stream and begins to head south. Continue southwards until you reach a farm track with barns to your left. Turn right here to emerge onto the open hillside at a stile and then on to the minor top Pen y Bryn via one of several vague tracks.
SO072227 Walk downhill from Pen y Bryn to a small saddle and obvious track. Follow this to the south, up the nose of Waun Rydd and round to the track junction in the next saddle. Take the track to the south and east, with a steep downhill slope on the right until you reach the Wellington bomber memorial cairn, with aeroplane wreckage strewn nearby on the hillside. A stepped track leads up onto the plateau. Cross the open moor from here, crossing another track and heading on to the large cairn marking the beginning of the descent track.
SO070202 Take the track down along the spur to the edge of a small wood and then go through a gate to join the lane below. Follow this into Aber village and then take the waymarked path opposite Aber Farm.
SO105217 Cross the river via a footbridge then take the steps uphill on the other side, to a disused railway bridge. Turn left after walking under this bridge and then go uphill once more, immediately after going through a gate. Walk along a field boundary to emerge on the broad cycle track above. Head northwards along the Taff Trail, re-crossing the disused railway on another small bridge then crossing the small bridge to rejoin the road in Talybont beside the White Hart Inn, just along the road from the Post Office.
