EXPERT’S EYE VIEW
Niki Morga■ Mountain Kingdoms WHAT’S IT LIKE?
“An ascent is normally made over two days spending a night, or two if necessary, at the Tete Rousse hut before heading out in the early hours for a summit ascent. When you stand on the summit, in the first light of day, all your physical and mental exertions will be rewarded by the stupendous, panoramic views laid out beneath you. A word of caution though – altitude, weather and natural hazards make Mont Blanc a serious, unpredictable and dangerous undertaking.”
WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED?
“You need plenty of stamina and have a head for heights. You should have winter hillwalking experience with ice axe and crampons. A mountaineering course, where glacier travel and crevasse rescue are also covered, is ideal preparation.”
WHAT WILL IT COST?
“Mountain Kingdoms’ Mont Blanc Summit is a nine-day group trip. It includes a qualified guide, free equipment hire and allows two days for a summit attempt – this provides a buffer against the weather. The cost is from £1995 (without flights).”
