WHITE-TAILED EAGLE

-

Reintroduced to Rum 43 years ago, the white-tailed eagle now thrives on the western side of Scotland. As far as ID goes, think of a scaffolding plank in the air, crucially with a wedge-shaped tail and a large, heavy bill – yellow in adults. Their speciality is feeding on fish, but they’ll take many other things. I was on the ferry over to Mull once and witnessed a white-tailed eagle repeatedly drive a gannet (Britain’s largest sea bird) into the sea. A truly epic sight.
