Sun, sandals and snow in the Spanish Sierra Nevada

-

We asked you lot to share your favourite wet weather walking stories and selfies – here are a selection of our favourites.

I found myself nearing the snowline at the summit of Mulhacen, the highest peak in the Spanish Sierra Nevada, wearing suede sandals from Hobbs, flimsy shorts and a Fairport Convention T-shirt. The kitted-upto-the-nines Germans and Italians I passed en route looked stunned and horrified. It’s fair to say I hadn’t intended to climb the highest mountain in Spain that day – but it was a pleasant day, so I just kept going. I reached the iron cross at the top, had a look around and came down again, through quite deep snow and ice. Fortunately this isn’t a tale of unexpected storms – just ruined sandals and an undeserved reputation for British resolve. Verity Hancock
