Birchover to Biggin
SK236621 From The 1 Druid Inn, walk east along Main Street and take the path on the right just after the village pinfold. Follow the path, crossing fields south-east until you meet a footpath going south and following a wall. Go right here and at the field boundary turn left into Clough Lane and follow east until it forks in woodland. Go right, then right again, then take the left-hand path downhill to a stream. Go left over the stream and down through woodland to Wensley.
SK260610 At the 2 road go across
diagonally right, then down the footpath leading to Wensley Dale. Turn left to pass houses then out into the dale. At the bottom go through the gate, then bear right of a barn and follow the path south-east along the wall then across fields to a wooden gate. Go through it and down a short path to emerge onto a road. Turn right up the road then left to Leawood Farm. Go past the farm and follow the footpath up through fields to Jughole Wood, passing a large cave on your left. DO NOT enter any mine works. Exit the woods and walk straight across the field, then a road and take the stile opposite to follow the wall to a walled lane. Go right down the lane. Where it forks keep left, walking down through woodland to Bonsall and the Kings Head pub.
3 SK279582 Take the footpath to the west of the cross, taking the steps towards Upper Town. Just before the walled lane ends take the footpath on the left into the village. Go left to follow the road. Where it becomes a wide space take the Limestone Way, following its course south-west past the remains of the Bonsall Mines, to the road into Ible. Go right along Grange Lane, and as the road sweeps left take the path left along a quarry then bearing right across two fields to a road. Turn left into Grange Mill. SK243576 Cross the 4 A5012 and follow the Limestone Way south along the top of a quarry then cross fields to meet the High Peak Trail. Go right along the trail through Longcliffe and follow it north-west.
5 SK206568 Where the path to Roystone Grange intersects the trail go right through a gate and walk north-east across fields then through a gate and up the fields to Minninglow Hill. Enter to view the Neolithic tomb and Bronze Age barrows. Exit via the north-west gate and walk down fields to rejoin the High Peak Trail. Follow the trail until it splits, north of Gotham.
SK184590 Take the 6 left-hand trail and just after the next field boundary on the right take the footpath right across a field to join the National Cycle Route 548.
Turn right and follow the route to the A515. Cross the road diagonally right then take the next road left into Biggin. Walk down into the village to the Waterloo Pub and campsite.
