Lyke Wake Walk R10-12
Choose between tests of stamina and endurance or a leisurely weekend walk across the North York Moors, says Paul Besley.
Choose between a 24-hour challenge or a winter weekend in yorkshire
The Lyke Wake Walk runs east from Osmotherley across the North York Moors National Park to the strange ‘incomplete’ town of Ravenscar on the east coast. The walk can be completed as the original 24-hour challenge or as a leisurely two- or three-day crossing. The route affords spectacular views out to the coast accompanied by moorland crossings with Bronze Age barrows and ancient crosses marking the way. Much of the walk is along easy-going terrain, making this perfect for a weekend ramble. Completing the challenge walk makes individuals eligible for membership of the Lyke Wake Walk Club, with females receiving the title of ‘Witch’ and males ‘Dirger’. TRANSPORT
