IT'S GOOD

What sets this jacket apart is that it has features that make a difference on the hill. So it has a good level of insulation for hillwalkers who need a jacket they can throw on at the summit and wear in a bothy or tent. You also get a hem drawcord – something many jackets lack – as well as a hood with face drawcords and a volume adjuster at the back. In addition you get Velcro tab adjustment cuffs, again a feature lacking elsewhere. The insulation has a down-like structure but is synthetic, so it dries faster than down. The shell is wellproven Pertex nylon, which will keep some water and the wind at bay.

HOWEVER

This is not the lightest option, and while it’s very warm you may just prefer a lighter but less warm jacket. The hood is helmet-compatible, and while it does adjust down nicely some hoods that are not helmetcompatible sit more neatly as they have less fabric. Also the hood did not turn with the head as well as others. Some may want an additional outside chest pocket, although there is one tucked inside. The cost is actually good as this is better than other jackets around this price, although it’s worth noting you could get a down jacket for this price that offers similar warmth for less weight.

VERDICT

A warmer jacket that’s ideal for most walkers who need something for winter on the summit, but the weight and hood movement with the head could be better.
