IT'S GOOD
This has some unique features that make it a little more practical than others. Firstly the insulation and the outer Pertex Quantum Air fabric are stretchy, so this fits really nicely and moves with the body easily. In addition it is more breathable than most other jackets, but importantly it is also windproof enough to wear without an outer shell in a light breeze. The pockets are particularly good as the main pair are above rucksack straps and you get an additional pair of Napoleon pockets for smaller items. There’s good adjustment at the hem too, while the hood fits and moves better than any other tested here. Finally, it is slightly lighter than others here.
HOWEVER
The price is higher than others and the cuffs are elasticated rather than having Velcro-style adjustment. It is not quite the warmest but it’s not far off and it’s fine for most winter summit days and evenings in bothies. While in a light breeze this fends off the wind well enough, in a gale you will need to put your waterproof over the top, although you would probably be doing this even when wearing the more windresistant jackets. The price is higher than many others and the benefit is the weight, the pockets, the hood and the breathability, but others are slightly warmer.
VERDICT
A lighter jacket with unique features that make it ideal for most British winters, although others tested are slightly warmer and all cost less.
