Yarlside & Green Bell
1
SD698969 Cross the footbridge by the Cross Keys Inn and head straight up the lower slopes of Yarlside (named Ben End on the OS map). Climb north-west over easy but steepening contours to a subsidiary summit at 590m. Turn north across a dip and continue to the cairn on top of Yarlside.
2
SD685985 Leave the summit by walking north for 200m. Descend north-north-east over very steep slopes (with a few patches of scree) to the saddle on the south side of Kensgriff. Go straight over and climb to the small cairn on Kensgriff. Continue north-east to descend a pleasant grassy ridge to a marshy col with small pools.
3
SD691997 Turn north-west and take the steep grassy path up to the cairn on Randygill Top. Go right, in a north-east direction, to follow quad bike tracks for 1.6km to the trig point on Green Bell.
4
NY698010 Leave the top by walking south for 500m. Veer left over a dip and continue due east for 350m to the minor top of Grere Fell. Descend south-west, to the right of a grassy gully, and head towards a pool in the walled enclosure by Adamthwaite Sike. Keep the wall on your left, cross the col and climb south-east, over boggy pathless ground, to the top of Wandale Hill, with cairn and tiny pool.
5
SD705990 Another descent follows – walk south on the ridge for 1km to cross a stile by a junction of walls and fences. Turn left across rough pasture and descend north-east to an old track near a ruined building. Turn sharp right, go through a gate and continue through a gap in a wall. Carry on through another gate and fork left downhill to the farm buildings at Narthwaite.
6
SD701974 Turn right and pass through a couple of gates on the rough track down to a ford/weir at Backside Beck. Cross the beck and turn left to follow the path back to the footbridge at the start of the walk.
