3-day loop of Buttermere
Sleep in two Lakeland bothies and bag 15 Wainwrights when you spend a long weekend completing this high-level loop of Buttermere.
Compared to Scotland, there aren’t many bothies in the Lake District. It’s a shame, because there is something truly magical about sleeping in a rustic, basic shelter atop a rugged mountainside. But, if you plan carefully, you can still experience the back-to-basics thrill of a bothy stay in the fells of Lakeland (COVID permitting).
This ultimate weekender includes overnight stops in two bothies: Warnscale Head, which serves up an impossibly idyllic view of Buttermere from its much-photographed window, and Dubs Hut, a former mining hut transformed into a charming shelter.
And if that’s not enough excitement for one weekend, this route – a summitbagging, high-level circumnavigation of Buttermere – also visits some of Lakeland’s most iconic peaks and ridges including Great Gable, Pillar and Haystacks.
