MOUNTAIN EMERGENCY – STAY OR GO?

When should you get yourself off the hill and when should you call Mountain Rescue?

-

GO

■ If any injured person can get off the hill, with some assistance if need be, without overly exacerbating their condition.

■ If waiting would make the situation worse – you don’t want to make everyone hypothermic for the sake of a twisted ankle.

■ If instructed to after calling MR.

STAY

■ If there is a suspected spinal injury.

■ If someone is unconscious, or it’s not possible for them to move without seriously compounding their injury or making the situation worse.

■ If instructed to, or if you have told MR where you’ll be. If you decide to move, let them know as soon as possible.
