Montane Women’s Trail Series Thermal Running Tights £80

Luxury is having specific kit for specific activities, but normally a lack of budget and space makes this more of a dream than a reality. I run, cycle and walk in equal measure, so these techy tights, which work across all three activities, are a godsend. Mainly used for running, they are an excellent fit and don’t slouch down like some others thanks to the high waist. I love the weather-resistant panels on the thighs, and the same placed just above the ankles makes them great for hillwalking. In cold, wet weather they are perfect under waterproof overtrousers, and the brushed inner fabric is very toasty. My pair are at least three years old, since when Montane has improved the pocket situation by adding a mobile-size pocket to the thigh.

Verdict

Always welcome on a cold day, meaning I’ve no excuses not to get out!
