Alpkit Teleki £40
+ Comfortable, very lightweight, breathable - No reinforced panels, no crotch gusset
If you’re looking for lightweight and comfortable summer walking trousers, Alpkit has pretty much nailed it with the
Teleki. They’re made from a stretch nylon that is breathable yet also hardwearing and wind resistant.
It also proved to be impressively fast-drying.
These are great qualities for all-day wear in the hills, but the fact that they are so packable makes them a great option for backpacking too. The overall fit is comfortable and unrestrictive. A tapered leg means there’s no flapping at the ankles. In fact, the only thing that limits freedom of movement is the crotch seam, where a gusset panel might have given an inch of extra leg lift. But that’s only likely to be an issue on the steepest terrain, and for general hillwalking the Telekis are a solid performer. They have two hand pockets and two back pockets, but only one zipped pocket, at the thigh. Since the focus is on minimum weight and maximum breathability, there are no fabric overlays at seat, knees or ankles. There’s also no Durable Water Repellent finish, which Alpkit didn’t feel was necessary for a quick-drying walking trouser. It also points out that wicking finishes can cause dew to spread up the trousers to your knees, an interesting point...
