Kinder Scout was an important battleground for the struggle between the working class’ right to roam and the landowners’ exclusive use of moorland for grouse shooting. In 1932 over 400 walkers trespassed onto Kinder Scout leading to five being jailed. Today it is credited with leading to the establishment of National Parks and open access land.
