MSR WindBurner
£135
“Completely windproof design & very efficient”
If you own a 3-season tent and like to spend nights in exposed mountain locations, this is probably the stove you need.
MSR’s WindBurner has been designed purely around a simple requirement: to boil water fast in the wildest and windiest weather. As such, when pot and stove are locked together, the large Radiant burner head is fully enclosed, resulting in a completely windproof design. It is very efficient, meaning you’ll use less gas, while the valve has a built-in pressure regulator that ensures consistent power output in cold weather or as your gas canister empties. The valve also has a long control handle, which helps to prevent burnt knuckles.
The pot itself holds about 750ml, which is enough for two decent brews or to rehydrate a pouch meal. It has internal graduated measurements to help you measure out your water, plus a fabric sleeve with an integrated handle and a translucent plastic lid.
You also get a gas canister stand for added stability, and a plastic cup/bowl that slots onto the base of the pot (which we somehow managed to jam on during testing). It all packs down neatly into the pot, leaving space inside for a 100g gas canister.
IF WE’RE BEING FUSSY
This is a stove for boiling water, not for cooking anything fancy. It can be a bit top-heavy in use. The pot handle is a bit flimsy too, and the lid can deform over time. We also wish it had builtin ignition.
